Riding a scooter is extremely fun. But at the same time it is a great responsibily for you as well as for the pedestrians on the road. You may know this already, but we have many careless car (truck and public transportation) drivers out on the roads. Many car drivers fail or are ignorant to understand that a scooter or motorcyle are also vehicles on the road. Theres a higher rate of scooter raddcidents at night with vehicle then during the day. This is due to carelessness drivers on the road, and most of the time because of poor visibilty. I have seen many scooter accidents in my days (not fatal). And as I stop to check it out, I can over hear the car driver telling the police officer "oh my God, I did'nt see him, I just did'nt see him"!
A safe scooter rider, is a smart scooter rider. Retro-reflectors are an important part of your scooter. It returns light back to the light source along the same light direction. In this case, being a car, truck or public vehicle. The luminous intensity retro-reflectors performance, or ratio increase its reflective light strength as the oncoming vehicle approaches.
The retro-reflector comes in different colors, sizes, and condition of the reflector. Clear or white reflectors are the most efficient, and appear brighter than other colors such as amber or red which are used on scooters. The surface area of the reflector is proportional to the ray intensity (or brightness) and increases as the reflective surface increases.
The ray intensity also a function of the spatial geometry between the observer, light source, and reflector. The picture above shows the automobile's headlights, scooter, and driver. The observation angle is the angle formed by the light beam and the driver's line of sight. Observation angle is a function of the distance between the headlights and the driver's eye, and the distance to the reflector. Traffic engineers use an observation angle of 0.2 degrees to simulate a reflector target about 800 feet in front of a passenger automobile. As the observation angle increases, the reflector performance decreases. For example, a truck has a large separation between the headlight and the driver's eye compared to a passenger vehicle. A scooter reflector appears brighter to the passenger car driver than to the truck driver at the same distance from the vehicle to the reflector. Note: That is why you have to be more careful at night riding your scooter when you have a truck behide you.
The light beam and the normal axis of the reflector as shown form the entrance angle. The entrance angle is a function of the orientation of the reflector to the light source. For example, the entrance angle between an automobile approaching a scooter at an intersection 90 degrees apart is larger than the entrance angle for a scooter directly in front of an automobile on a straight road. The reflector appears brightest to the observer (the vehicle driver) when it is directly in line with the light source.
The brightness of a reflector is also a function of the distance between the light source and the reflector. At a given observation angle, as the distance between the light source and the reflector decreases, the light that falls on the reflector increases. This increases the amount of light returned to the observer (the vehicle driver) and the reflector appears brighter. Scooters have a retangular shape retro-reflector on the rear splash guard (mud guard or flap). Please remember that most car drivers will be able to see the reflection of a retro-reflector, if it returns light back to the light source along the same light direction. But when a scooter rider is making a turn or has the scooter in an angle. The luminous intensity of the retro-reflectors decreases. Causing the on coming vehicle not to see you
We can recommend replacing the conventional rear retangular shape retro-reflector you have on the rear of your scooter with our which will give you an output of 3 times more ilumination. Most GY6 scooter come with a poor brake assembly which provide poor lumination for vehicles who are driving behide you. You can also replace your factory brake light bulb with
